Vance’s Criticism of Catholic Bishops

In a recent televised appearance, Vice President J.D. Vance took aim at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for their opposition to President Trump’s Executive Orders, particularly those permitting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to conduct operations in churches and schools. Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, expressed deep disappointment with the bishops’ stance.

He spoke sense during the campaign, and he’s speaking sense from the White House. This is why voters liked JD!

The Vice President accused the USCCB of being more concerned with their financial interests than genuine humanitarian issues. He pointed out that the organization receives substantial funding for resettling immigrants, suggesting this might influence their position on immigration policy.

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, President of the USCCB, has voiced apprehension about Trump’s Executive Orders affecting immigrants, refugees, foreign aid, the death penalty, and the environment. The USCCB, which serves as the largest refugee resettlement agency globally, argues that allowing ICE raids in churches and schools creates fear in places meant for care and healing.

“Some provisions contained in the Executive Orders, such as those focused on the treatment of immigrants and refugees, foreign aid, expansion of the death penalty, and the environment, are deeply troubling and will have negative consequences, many of which will harm the most vulnerable among us,” Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio said.

However, Vance countered this perspective, emphasizing the need for stringent immigration enforcement and public safety measures.

How can any Christian support an immigration policy that puts innocent children and women at risk every single day? Including illegal aliens being smuggled over the border?

Vance’s Defense of Administration Policies

Vance staunchly defended the administration’s empowerment of law enforcement to enforce immigration laws. He highlighted concerns about child sex trafficking, attributing it to what he described as a “wide open border” under the previous administration.

“As a practicing Catholic, I was actually heartbroken by that statement. I think that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants. Are they worried about humanitarian concerns? Or are they actually worried about their bottom line?” JD Vance said.

Too right!

The Vice President also supported Trump’s suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, citing insufficient vetting of refugees and potential risks to American communities.
