The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) gathered evidence indicating that Mr. Hall had purchased items consistent with premeditation on October 10, the day he picked up Ms. Exelby. These purchases included a shovel, rope, and gun cleaner. Surveillance footage and digital communications supported the timeline of events leading up to Ms. Exelby’s death.

On October 11, Ms. Exelby sent a message to a friend expressing fear and regret. Her body was discovered in a shallow grave in Marion County on October 13.
