Donald Trump has confirmed that he does not intend to run for the White House in 2028. During a sit-down interview aired on September 22, Sharyl Attkisson asked the former President if he would make another bid for the Presidency should he lose to Kamala Harris in November. “I don’t see that at all,” he said, adding, “Hopefully, we’re gonna be successful.”
Mr. Trump will be 82 years old in 2028, meaning if he did run and win, he would be 86 at the end of a second term. Consequently, he would face the same criticisms aimed at Joe Biden before he withdrew from the race earlier this year. Biden is 81 and would be 86 at the close of a second White House term, prompting many Democrats to encourage the President to stand aside for a new generation. When he announced his departure in a message to Americans from the Oval Office, the President said it was time to pass the torch to 59-year-old Vice President Kamala Harris.
Also during his interview with Attkisson, former President Trump said it was too early to comment on what roles, if any, he would appoint to Robert F. Kennedy, Tulsi Gabbard, or Elon Musk if he wins the election. He did comment, however, that Mr. Kennedy would do great work on the nation’s health given his commitment to chemical-free food production. Trump said that other developed countries don’t use food additives to the same extent and that America can learn from them.
Ms. Attkisson then questioned the former President about his own health, and he admitted he maintains a somewhat unhealthy diet. Trump said people have told him for years to change his eating habits, but many of those people are dead while he is still here. He added that he gets plenty of exercise through his love of golf and is generally not concerned about his health or strength.
Many voters don’t seem to agree. Polling shows that a slim majority (51%) believe he is too old and unfit to occupy the Oval Office for a second time. When Biden dropped out of the race, Donald Trump took his place as the oldest person ever to run for the American Presidency.
