Trump Says He Will Negotiate Russia-Ukraine Peace Before Being Elected

Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, claiming he would negotiate a permanent peace between the two countries if he wins the 2024 presidential election. During an exclusive interview, Trump spoke about the war and said that if elected, he would end the war before taking office in January 2025. Trump highlighted peace between Ukraine and Russia as his top priority, claiming he wanted to end the war and prevent further death and destruction for Russians and Ukrainians alike.

While discussing the war, Trump highlighted his connections to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump said he knows both presidents well and believes his connections to both would help expedite peace negotiations between the two countries. Trump also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris during the interview, claiming she’d fail to establish peace and that under her leadership, the Ukraine-Russia war would continue. Harris has also briefly addressed the Ukraine-Russia war during her campaign events, but the vice president hasn’t discussed any plans to negotiate with Putin and Zelenskyy about a peaceful resolution.

When talking about Harris, Trump highlighted her lack of experience as an obstacle that would prevent meaningful peace negotiations. Trump went on to claim that he believes Harris could accidentally escalate the Eastern European conflict into a widespread global war, a claim often echoed by other members of the Republican Party. When talking about his plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump said that he believes he could negotiate a permanent ceasefire as early as Christmas 2024. Trump’s comments are the latest example of the former president advocating against Harris, who the former president feels used political intrigue to “steal” the Democratic Party nomination from President Joe Biden.

Despite Trump’s comments about the Russia-Ukraine war and his frequent criticisms of Harris, the former president has fallen behind in polls since Harris became the Democratic Party’s nominee. Trump still maintains a favorable position over Harris, but some political experts believe that without a severe course correction, Trump’s presidential campaign could fail to prevent Harris from winning the 2024 presidential election. Trump has cited his recent decline in popularity as a temporary setback and maintains that he’s the most popular candidate in the upcoming election.
