A young woman who was described as outgoing, loyal, and loving by her family has gone missing after a dive off the coast of Dorset in South West England, and her family is devastated.
The 20-year-old Poole resident Emily Sherwin did not come up for air on Tuesday at 6 o’clock after a diving adventure in Poole Bay, Dorset.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Dorset Police, and the coastguard called off their massive search for the missing diver on Wednesday night.
The girl went missing after diving off Old Harry Rocks in Swanage yesterday, according to the police department.
In a heartfelt tribute, her troubled family has expressed their love and loss, saying they would “miss her forever” and that their daughter had aspirations of a future in marine conservation.
Her family said that Emily was one of a kind; she was lively, friendly, devoted, loving, and original. Her radiant presence illuminated every room. When Emily was younger, she had a passion for sailing and scuba diving. A promising future in marine conservation awaited her. They expressed their deep sorrow over Emily’s passing, but they also expressed their enduring gratitude for the 20 years they had together and found solace in the knowledge that she was fulfilling her passion.
The Sherwins extended their gratitude to everyone who had helped in the search for the young diver, particularly the thirty boats from Parkstone Yacht Club.
Rachel Vallins, a chief inspector with the Dorset Police, said that officers continue to keep the family fully informed and that their thoughts are with all of Emily’s loved ones. Vallins said they have been searching the region where Emily had dived for days with their partner agencies but so far have not been successful in finding her.
After consulting with marine experts and carefully reviewing the incident’s circumstances, they have decided to halt their underwater searches.
