Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib appears to have defended Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists following President Trump’s decision to launch strikes against the group. Tlaib, who has long been accused of being a terrorist sympathizer, certainly isn’t helping her reputation.
At a glance:
- Rep. Rashida Tlaib criticized the Trump administration’s military actions against Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists
- The White House defended Trump’s decisive actions against terrorists who have attacked U.S. Navy warships 174 times since 2023
- Commercial shipping vessels have faced 145 Houthi attacks, forcing 75% of U.S.-flagged shipping to avoid the Suez Canal
- Tlaib and other House Democrats have also rallied around Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel activist facing deportation
- President Trump has declared this the “first arrest of many” in his crackdown on “pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity” at universities
Tlaib Defends Terrorists as Trump Takes Action
Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has sparked outrage by defending the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen amidst President Trump’s decisive military response. Her criticism comes as the Trump administration has taken swift action against the terrorist group that has repeatedly targeted American military assets and disrupted critical global shipping routes.
The Michigan representative specifically criticized the Trump administration’s use of the Signal messaging app to discuss military operations against the Houthis. This peculiar focus on communication methods rather than terrorist activities has left many questioning where her priorities lie.
The White House quickly responded to Tlaib’s remarks with a statement defending President Trump’s decisive approach to dealing with terrorists. “Democrats and their media allies have seemingly forgotten that President Donald J. Trump and his National Security team successfully killed terrorists who have targeted U.S. troops and disrupted the most consequential shipping routes in the world,” the statement read.
Houthi Attacks Escalate Under Biden’s Watch
Since 2023, the Houthi terrorists have carried out a staggering 174 attacks on U.S. Navy warships and 145 attacks on commercial shipping vessels. These brazen assaults have forced 75% of U.S.-flagged shipping to abandon the Suez Canal route, instead navigating around the southern coast of Africa at tremendous economic cost. But apparently that’s not enough to justify a response for the democrats.
The White House statement highlighted the stark contrast between the current and previous administrations’ approaches to the growing threat. “The Biden Administration sat back as a band of pirates — with precision-guided, Iran-provided weaponry — exacted a toll system in one of the most important shipping lanes in the world,” it noted.
“Biden’s weakness invited these unacceptable attacks — while President Trump put these terrorists on notice,” the White House statement concluded.
Democrats Rally Around Anti-Israel Activist
Tlaib’s defense of the Houthis comes alongside other concerning developments within the Democratic Party. Several House Democrats, including Rep. Deila Ramirez, have publicly rallied in support of Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel activist currently facing deportation.
“Free Mahmoud Khalil!” Rep. Ramirez declared, while Rep. Lois Frankel attempted to frame the issue around free speech rather than alleged immigration violations. Khalil, a green card holder married to a U.S. citizen, was arrested by ICE for allegedly misrepresenting his immigration status and failing to disclose certain affiliations.
Given that Trump has promised more attacks, we might well expect more excuses to defend terrorists from Tlaib and her friends in Congress.
