Demonstrators assembled outside the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., on Thursday afternoon in anticipation of former President Donald Trump’s arrival for his upcoming arraignment.
Police and protesters both in favor of and against Trump confronted each other.
A crowd of over 100 demonstrators assembled before Trump’s 4 p.m. arraignment, with a significant number of police officers maintaining order in the vicinity.
Among the gathering, a small group of Trump’s supporters waved large campaign flags bearing slogans such as “Trump for President ’24” and “Finish The Wall.” Additionally, another supporter displayed a sign proclaiming, “Trump won.”
Trump is confronted with multiple charges, including conspiracy to impede an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, attempted obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against voting rights.
Previously, he had been indicted on a separate federal charge, to which he has asserted his innocence, pleading not guilty to 37 counts associated with his alleged inappropriate handling of classified documents.
Speaking to Fox News Digital outside the courthouse, one protester named Eric Lamar expressed his belief that the former president will now face accountability for his “criminal acts before and during January 6.” Another person stated that he had attended every one of Trump’s arraignments and predicted a growth in support for the former president.
He stated, “I expect Ron DeSantis to lose two points because that’s what happened at every indictment.” Donald Trump will go up in the polls by four points.
Other protesters held up signs reading “Jail Trump forever,” “Finally, Trump arrested again,” and “Trump Indictment Celebration Tour.” The former president was mandated to appear for an arraignment at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
In a prior statement a spokesperson for Trump dismissed the charges as “nothing more than the latest corrupt chapter in the continued pathetic attempt by the Biden’s and their Department of Justice to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election with President Trump leading the field of GOP candidates by substantial margins and is currently the undisputed front-runner for the Republican Presidential nomination.
