Prince William has appointed Meghan and Harry’s pal to his new Earthshot Prize Council. José Andrés, whose World Central Kitchen organization has received funding from the Archewell Foundation, founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, describes the California-based Royals as “dear friends.” Prince William founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to “search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges.”
Mr. Andrés’s World Central Kitchen (WCK) made international headlines recently when some of its workers were killed in an Israeli strike. Seven staff members from Britain, Australia, Poland, and the United States died in the April incident, for which the Israeli government apologized, saying it had “misidentified” the WCK convoy. Spanish-born chef José Andrés founded WCK in the United States in 2010, and in 2020, received an undisclosed sum from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charity-funding Archewell Foundation. Responding to the Earthshot Council appointment, the chef said he was “thrilled.”
While the two brothers may still share friends and associates, Royal experts say their rift remains unhealed. Over the past couple of years, media speculation has wondered when the warring siblings would reconcile, but there have been few signs. Harry has recently denied rumors that he wishes to return to the United Kingdom and rejoin his family, while insiders told reporters that the Duke of Sussex remains unwelcome in the Palace.
Harry traveled to the UK in late August for the funeral service of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowesth. His brother also attended the service, but the two siblings “kept their distance.” They have not spoken since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, and Prince William is reportedly unwilling to break the ice between them. The feud is so serious that future King William said he will not invite his brother to his coronation when he eventually ascends to the British throne.
The King’s sons are facing the prospect of their father’s death as officials say funeral arrangements are underway for the 75-year-old Monarch who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Palace sources told reporters, however, that the King or Queen’s funeral is constantly under review.
