Representative Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, stated on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the recent agreement to prevent a government shutdown was a victory for Democrats and a setback for MAGA.
Anchor Jake Tapper mentioned that House Democrats will seek advice regarding the pending motion to vacate Kevin McCarthy’s speakership. Tapper asked Pelosi what advice she would give her fellow Democrats on whether they can trust Kevin McCarthy if he makes Democrats an offer so he can stay in power.
Pelosi said that Hakeem Jeffries has done a great job, so everyone should follow his lead. The Democrats won, while Trump and his supporters lost.
When asked if she would vote to vacate McCarthy, Pelosi said no.
Speaker Pelosi blasted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for having “no sway” in the House of Representatives. Pelosi told Tapper that the Democrats shouldn’t bother with him because he doesn’t do anything in the House of Representatives besides appear on television and solicit donations online.
Later this week, Gaetz will submit a move to vacate McCarthy. McCarthy feels this is a personal vendetta against him because Gaetz believes a House investigation into the Florida representative is unwarranted and could be quashed.
Meanwhile, McCarthy’s conduct in the financing discussions has been criticized by several Republican members of the House.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said on Fox News Sunday that the speaker is in peril after Saturday’s ratification of a short-term deal.
Donalds said the arrangement, which keeps the government running until November, does not give the Republicans any wins. It was unclear whether Donalds would support a motion to vacate the current speaker.
Donalds declared the agreement to be a victory for the Democrats. House Democratic Leader Jeffries, D-N.Y., voiced agreement with the sentiment, claiming that “MAGA Republicans” had surrendered.
