Kari Lake, an Arizona senatorial candidate, is about to add another Republican senator to her expanding list of backers from the US Senate. Due mainly to her position on border security, Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC.) officially backed Lake on Tuesday.
In a statement, Budd endorsed Kari Lake for the Arizona Senate because Lake would work to restore American energy independence, reduce costs for the American people, and protect the border. We are counting on Kari to oppose the extreme left-wing agenda of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. She will stand up for conservative measures that will restore our nation’s strength.
Kari Lake has pledged on her campaign website to finish the border wall and provide the resources necessary for our Border Patrol officers to ensure the safety of American families and the complete security of our borders. Biden would not have hammered the doors open if the wall had failed. We must increase the effectiveness of technical monitoring and surveillance to aid the Border Patrol in their interceptions and implement the laws already in existence.
Lake can now boast that over 30 Republican senators, including Budd, have openly supported her candidacy. Mark Lamb, the sheriff of Pinal County, is also running for the Republican nomination, but he has a long way to go before he can compete with Lake, who has extensive political experience and several prominent endorsements.
With two independents joining the Democrat caucus, the Senate is 51–49 in favor of Democrats. However, out of 34 seats up for grabs in the 2024 election, Democrats will have the challenge of defending 23 of them.
With border security emerging as a popular topic, Republicans are eyeing Arizona as a potential target for a gain.
The latest polls show that Lake has an edge over her probable Democrat opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ). Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), the current senator, declared earlier in March that she would not be seeking reelection.
Lake was defeated in the 2022 Arizona governor’s election by Democrat Katie Hobbs, who ran on a pro-illegal immigration platform and voting rights.
Lake has not conceded defeat nor a defeat for Trump in the 2020 election. Her voters are ready for an election on November 5, 2024.
