Nationwide Recall Alert

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a recall for DJ’s Boudain sausage link products due to potential contamination with foreign objects. The recall affects 17,720 pounds of sausage links produced on January 23, 2025, and distributed to markets in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

The contamination was discovered following a consumer complaint about finding a piece of a pen in the Original Boudain sausage links. There has been one report of oral injury related to the consumption of the contaminated product, with no additional reports of injury or illness at this time.

Affected Products and Consumer Guidance

The recalled products include DJ’s Original Boudain in 12-ounce, 16-ounce, and 24-ounce packages, and DJ’s Jalapeno Boudain in 12-ounce packages, all with a sell-by date of March 9, 2025. Additionally, fresh and frozen bulk products sold to restaurants are included in the recall. Consumers can identify the affected products by looking for the establishment number “EST. 13246” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Consumers who have purchased these potentially contaminated sausages are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, they should either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. The FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks and will post a detailed retail distribution list on their website to assist consumers in identifying affected products.

Company Response and Food Safety Concerns

D.J.’s Boudain, LLC is working closely with the USDA to ensure all affected products are removed from circulation. The company is likely enhancing its quality control processes to prevent future incidents. This recall serves as a stark reminder of the importance of rigorous quality control measures in the food industry.

Foreign objects in food can pose serious health risks, including oral injuries, choking hazards, and digestive injuries. Consumers are reminded to be vigilant and report any unusual findings in their food products to the appropriate authorities.
