Conservative Republicans who have taken control of the Georgia State Election Board are giving Democrats and radical leftists a fright. Democrat apologists with the corporate press are suggesting the “far-right” is “rewriting the rules” to favor Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Moderate Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is being pressured to investigate the board for ethics complaints, and potentially utilize his office to remove the offending “far-right” members.
Stacey Abrams is financing a $50,000 advertisement campaign to feature an ad in the Atlanta metro area on corporate news networks. The advertisement encourages viewers to call the governor’s office and suggest he act to abrogate the actions of the board.
George State Board of Elections members have defended their actions, saying that the only changes that have been made to the election process increase transparency and make the final counts for the elections more accurate. They highlighted that none of their changes alter deadlines or change Georgia state law.
The issue is unfolding in a major battleground state; Georgia’s outcome was contested in the previous cycle with Trump claiming to this day that he was unfairly cheated by Democrat shenanigans and Republican impotence.
Trump himself has been outspokenly supportive of the changes implemented by the board. The campaign could reignite old antipathies between Kemp and Trump, after the two having reached a tentative truce. Trump recently wrote kindly of Kemp on his social media and thanked him publicly for his “support and help.”
Kemp is popular and commands a large political machine in the state which could make or break Trump’s attempt to win in November.
The complaints about the ethics of the board members are nonspecific and vague; one Democrat woman filed a complaint against the board for allegedly violating Georgia’s open meetings law. Another Democrat woman and state representative made an official complaint claiming that the rule changes were intent on aiding Trump, without specifying how.
Trump publicly spoke positively of the board and suggested they were fighting for secure and transparent elections.
