As the House Judiciary Committee investigates claims of a conflict of interest in the Manhattan trial of New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, Republicans in the House are demanding that Merchan’s daughter produce documentation.
Ohio Republican and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan demanded Thursday that Loren Merchan hand over any conversations that her progressive consulting business, Authentic Campaigns, may have had about the prosecution of former President Trump. Jordan is investigating the daughter of the judge who oversaw the criminal prosecution of former President Trump due to her previous employment by Vice President Kamala Harris.
Mr. Jordan requested her firm’s communications with the Democratic National Committee and President Biden’s reelection campaign.
August 8th is her due date.
Mr. Jordan pointed out that Senate Majority PAC and California Democrat Adam B. Schiff, two of Ms. Merchan’s clients, made $93 million from Mr. Trump’s prosecution funding.
Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who represent Trump in court, stated in a Thursday filing that Authentic, the political consulting business where Merchan’s daughter works, was involved with Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign and is now working with Democratic organizations.
Trump was found guilty on all charges of first-degree falsifying business documents by a jury. Trump has asked Merchan to reverse that decision.
Because Merchan’s daughter worked for a corporation named Authentic Campaigns, Inc., which is linked with Democrats, the Trump legal team asked Judge Merchan to disqualify himself from the case before the trial began.
Jordan said that, at a minimum, there is a perception that Loren Merchan could profit from Trump’s prosecution in a forum overseen by her father. Jordan made the statement in reference to the firm’s financial ties with prominent Democrats, such as Rep. Adam Schiff and the Senate Majority PAC.
From January 1, 2023, to the present day, Jordan is requesting that Loren Merchan produce “all contracts and invoices referring or relating to work performed by Authentic Campaigns” for the Biden, Harris, or Democratic National Committee campaigns.
